02 The Lift Equation
Everything so far compresses into one line: L = 12 ρ V2 S CL Density, speed squared, wing area, and a coefficient hiding the shape and the angle. This lesson is pure calculation. Work in SI units, state the unit with every answer, and round only at the end; answers are checked against a tolerance, not a keyword list.
An aircraft flies at V = 60 m/s in sea-level air, ρ = 1.225 kg/m3 . Compute the dynamic pressure q = 12 ρ V2 . Answer in Pa.
Hints
- Square the speed first: 602 = 3600 .
- Then q = 0.5 × 1.225 × 3600 .
- A pascal is a newton per square metre. Dynamic pressure is the pressure the moving air can exert; every aerodynamic force below starts from it.
