00 Fundamentals of Lift
In steady level flight four forces balance: lift carries the weight, thrust covers the drag. This lesson is about the first of those, and about clearing out the most popular wrong explanation of it before it takes root.
In your own words: what is lift, and how does a wing actually produce it? Explain in terms of what the wing does to the air, and what the air does back. Two short paragraphs at most.
Hints
- Follow the air: where is it going after the wing has passed?
- There are two honest ways to tell the story, momentum and pressure. They are the same story.
- No equations needed yet. Plain mechanism.
